Chuckanut Announces Prize Purse

Big news for Washington State’s biggest ultra:

This year our Run the Ridge Sponsor Patagonia along with our Interurban Sprint Sponsors have come up with a $3,000 prize purse!!  Runner Girl Races, LLC offers a $200 Course Record bonus to the top male, female or nonbinary runner that breaks the current course record.

Chuckanut is not just Washington’s biggest race, it’s one of the biggest ultras in North America with over 800 people on the starting list, but they are also still somewhat the definition of a “grassroots organization”: old school vibes, just a single distance. When Chuckanut (which to be fair has always has attracted an elite field) adds prize money then I wonder how much longer we’ll go until this will become the norm for trail races around the US.
