It is time. In October you can stream TRFF'26 - from the comfort of our couch, with friends, and popcorn. Ten films, hours of inspiration.
The historic event is happening right now on Reunion Island, a French Territory in the Indian Ocean (ahhhh colonialism, what joy). But, what I wanted to highlight is their list of sponsors. Not a single shoe brand on the list, barely any outdoor brands at all, but a slew of non-endemic partners including Allianz (insurance company), La Poste (postal service), Caisse d’Epargne (banking), and several others. Fascinating, and peculiar. It seems that these non-endemic brands are easier to get for sponsoring island races than the ones in the Alps (or other more commonly associated locations with “trail”). Is that because these races, which require expensive air travel, seemingly have a more affluent demographic, or do these events in remote regions have “cheaper” partnership offerings?
