Announced just today, the historic mozart 100 in Austria is moving from Salzburg to nearby Fuschl am See:

In 2026, mozart 100 by UTMB® moves to the Salzkammergut, with Fuschl am See as the new heart of the event. This stunning region – already familiar to many as the starting point of the mozart Ultra – will now become the centerpiece of the entire race. It’s a natural evolution: from the cultural heartbeat of the city to the scenic diversity of lakes and mountains.

The race, born with the goal to honor musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, continues follow in his footsteps. The start and finish will now be in a new town: Fuschl am See, as supposed the previous bigger city of nearby Salzburg. It’ll utilize some of the same route but by starting and finishing in Fuschl am See UTMB is able to get runners faster to the mountains:

The move to Fuschl am See and the lakes of the Salzkammergut brings runners closer to nature, more connected to local traditions, and higher into the mountains. It’s where the spirit of trail running truly comes alive – and where a new chapter in the history of mozart 100 is ready to be written.

I wonder too if this move is also a logistical one. From 2024 to ’25 the event grew by 300 runners, or about 15%. It can’t be that easy (or cheap) to have such a big event staged in the heart of a city with a population of over 150,000 people. Maybe the new location allow the organizers to grow the event in the near future. Well, in the past it has always sold out, we shall see what 2026 brings. Registration is about to open, according to the UTMB website.
