From their press announcement:

Today, COROS released an update that allows athletes to view Strava Live Segments directly from their device. Live Segments on Strava is a way for athletes to compete with their own previous times on specific segments to see how they’ve improved, or to compete with other athletes to see who can achieve the best overall time on their favorite road, trail, and more.

This is kind of a fascinating development. At a time when Strava seems to be closing down API access COROS chooses to expand their product offering by adding Strava data to their app.

  • Has this been in the works for awhile and Coros just hopes Strava won’t cut off access for them?
  • Is this a special provision Strava grants Coros?
  • Is this type of API access exactly the kind of data Strava wants to share and possibly even charging lots of money for?
  • Is this a classic and well-trodden path of “let’s move into the B2B SAAS market” for Strava?
