Wed am Update

Just updated the leaderboard after another muddy night on the usually dry desert trails of Arizona.

  • In the women’s race, we still have Rachel Entrekin uncontested in the lead (and in 4th place overall!).
  • Rachel is ahead by over 35miles over second place Lindsey Dwyer with “just” 38 miles to the finish.
  • In the men’s race Dan Green is now just 20 miles from the finish. After battling back and forth with Ryan Sandes throughout the day yesterday Dan has now taking a solid lead over Ryan by over 10 miles.
  • Haroldas Subertas has had a surge over the last 12 hours (or everyone else was fading) and found his way back into 5th place.
  • There’s some conversation going on about Edher Ramirez who’s tracker showed him taking a wrong turn which resulted in a small shortcut – is there still a time penalty incoming?

As these races are getting faster and more competitive there’s a debate on how much sleep these front of the pack runners need. Can the right amount of sleep help to keep you fit and alert, or does the time spend sleeping allow your competition from overtaking you?

The final stretch before heading to the finish in Flagstaff takes runners over Eldon Peak… a mountain greeting runners with a dusting of snow this morning.

But aside from the surprising conditions both race leaders, Rachel and Dan are on course record time.
