After just one year of collaboration, the race organization behind Mallorca 5000, or Mallorca by UTMB announce they are separating ways with the UTMB World Series on Instagram (auto-translated):

After a year of collaboration, and by agreement between the two parties, we would like to announce that @mallorca_5000 and @mallorcabyutmb are officially disconnected for the 2025 edition.

The weather severely disrupted the 2024 edition, with both the 100M and 100K having to be cancelled due to strong rain. Unclear is at this point is if this disruption had anything to do with this decision.

Not sure if you’re keeping track but this is island race #3 that’s parting ways with the UTMB World Series. Transvulcania and Mauritius were previous events that split in recent months.1 This news too comes from the local race organization while UTMB has not made any announcement as of yet.

I have not updated the ECC calendar yet as I am still waiting on a statement from UTMB on this.

1 – Update: Here’s the statement I received from the UTMB press office on this:

This year, in an exceptional way, we hosted the Balearic Ultra Cross Country Championships at the M5000 distance, in collaboration with a local club. This coming year 2025 we will not host the championship and the course of the 100k category will change. For this reason we will not hold the M5000 again, in agreement with this club and the Federation. The Mallorca by UTMB will have the 4 categories planned, on routes to be announced in January.

So, while there will be changes to the route, the local management and partnerships the Mallorca by UTMB event is going to continue as part of the UTMB World Series. An official announcement on updated routes, registration and race dates will happen this upcoming January.
