Yes, carrying a water bottle or wearing a vest or belt takes some getting used to. And yes, runners who are faster than me and/or sweat less than I do may not find it as necessary or beneficial. But with practice, carrying your own hydration is far less cumbersome than you’d think—and likely worth it for the majority of runners, whether to shave off seconds battling for cups, or to prevent dehydration slowdowns in later miles, or both. 

What road runners have scoffed at for years, but has been standard practice on trails is slowly finding adopters on the road as well. Carrying your own hydration during a road race can safe you time at the aid station and safe the planet.

Curious what other adoptions from the trails we will see. Will the 2hr marathon mark be broken with the use of poles?
