Re:Public Aims to Be the Public-Lands Watchdog

Launched just last month (and hopefully not too late given our current political climate) the new journalistic outfit Re:Public, is spearheaded by former Outside magazine editor in chief Chris Keyes and focuses on keeping tabs on what is happening with and to our public lands.

From their mission statement:

We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom dedicated solely to covering the policies, people, and forces shaping the future of America’s public lands. Through investigative reporting, data-driven storytelling, and partnerships with major media outlets, we shine a light on decisions that affect us all—and give the public the knowledge it needs to protect our shared heritage.

Lots has been said about the slow and fast erosion of our ‘fourth estate’ in this country, and a lot of shit we’re dealing with right now can be attributed to “people getting away with” due to the basic lack of reporting. This, and efforts like this, are much needed, more than welcome and worthy of our support in any capacity we can.
