Paraty Brazil by UTMB is another first year event for the World Series. Over 3,000 runners joined UTMB in Brazil for the five different races last weekend. This event is a perfect example of how UTMB creates or partners with events in regions allowing people to stay local to participate in an UTMB event and acquire their stones. This event not just boasts an entirely South American podium but it also showcases great gender parity (across the event, not for EVERY SINGLE RACE). With a 43% women participation combined across all distances this is one of the best events in this regard. And yes, we still see a big disparity of gender in the biggest distances, but by offering shorter distances the race organizers are able to invite more folks to the table and create better parity across the race weekend. There’s still work to do, but offering shorter distances is one great way of inviting more folks to the table.
