Bear Gulch Fire Forces Cancelation of Beast of Big Creek Races

Sad day in the Rock Candy headquarters, which also double as the Electric Cable Car headquarters. We had to cancel this year’s Beast of Big Creek:

Due to the ongoing fire activity near the race course for our Beast of Big Creek event we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. We’re incredibly disappointed, and we’re sure you are as well.

Throughout this decision I was in close conversation with the Olympic National Forest Service since the fire had started a few weeks ago. In the end I had to weigh the stress on infrastructure and staff, risk management for the runners and volunteers, and business interests. I’m not happy about it, it sucks to have to make this call, but it’s also the right call. And I am very grateful that I’ve gotten only positive and supportive comments back on this so far.

Beast will be back in 2026!
