Through Night One

With 27hrs into the race, over a full day of racing and the leaders having reached the halfway point as we wake up after the first night we are seeing the first high profile casualties:

• Most notable: Courtney Dauwalter is an official DNF – via her Instagram. No reason give yet.
• Mika Thewes has already said going into this race that due to family matters she wasn’t fully in it.
• Jack Scott, British hopeful and previous winner of the Spine Race dropped due to an hamstring issue.

With Courtney leaving the race and Haroldas having had issues early on, this leaves the race with two new race leaders: Dan Green from West Virginia and Rachel Entrekin from Colorado, who apparently hasn’t been told by her pacers that Courtney has dropped. Evil scheme or brilliant support execution – we shall see.

Another noteworthy update: The weather – for a desert race in May – looks absolutely awful and apparently the night was not fun to be out in.
