Yo Saturnalia!
Get ready for a fun and festive holiday 10K trail race at Squaxin Park in Olympia, WA on December 13.

The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB happened this weekend on parts of the Western States trails along the American River in Auburn California. The 100K is also the last chance for runners to get a coveted Golden Ticket for this year’s Western States. If you’re wondering why there’s no livestream for this event you can listen to my conversation with Jeff Pelletier on this week’s episode of Singletrack where we’re breaking down the challenges, costs, and the opportunities around livestreams for these ultra trail events.

Below are the numbers broken down by distance and gender:

  • 100M Starters: 235. DNF: 76 + Finishers: 159. Women 28 (18%), Men 131 (82%).
  • 100K Starters: 667. DNF: 173 + Finishers: 526. Women 113 (21%), Men 413 (79%).
  • 50K Starters: 616. DNF: 15 + Finishers: 601. Women 198 (32%), Men 403 (67%).
  • 25K Starters: 325. DNF: 0 + Finishers: 325. Women 153 (47%), Men 172 (53%).

Canyons by UTMB saw a total 1,843 starters and 1,611 finishers. 492 (31%) women and 1,119 (69%) men reached the finish line and earned themselves their respective stones and an UTMB index (or directly punched their ticket to the Finals in Chamonix for 2026). Last year, in 2024 Canyons was the American Major, so I was curious if the numbers would be significantly affected by the demotion this year. But Canyons in 2025 only saw about a single digit percent drop in starters and is still the largest North American UTMB event. (That is until we see if the numbers significantly increase for Kodiak this year.)

Next up is Amazean Jungle Thailand in Betong, Thailand with 5 races on deck on 1-4 of May, 2025. For a full list of UTMB World Series events visit the ECC UTMB World Series events calendar.
