The race is still a few months out (race day is Aug 10th, 2024) but the registration lottery happened yesterday and the organization send out some numbers (translated from their Instagram post):
There were over 30,000 servers online when registration opened!
We look forward to welcoming the 6,000 registered for the 51st edition.
The 31 km race, leading from Sierre to Zinal in the canton of Valais in Switzerland, is clearly one of the largest single distance trail events in the world, or as the marketing language on their website puts it:
One of the world’s most scenic mountain running trails, Sierre-Zinal has been hailed as the “New York Marathon” of mountain races. It is also the oldest of the kind in Europe.
The entry list can be found here (so, this is something that can be published right away apparently – who knew) and includes many of the well-known short-trail-distance- athletes from around the world including Kilian Jornet.
The event has some big name sponsors – of course Salomon is on board as title sponsors, but also UBS – a giant Swiss bank, and Romande Énergie – a Swiss energy company.
