The New England based preppy, and pricey, running brand Tracksmith launched a trail running capsule last week and the trail world went all gatekeep-y. The marketing for the line is boldly celebrating east coast trails and its unique terrain. This is something many folks have been asking for. But the response the brand received was just loud mockery and distain because the marketing imagery didn’t look like Patagonia but more like LL. Bean. I can’t speak to the quality, or usefulness of the product – spending $240 on a pair of unproven trail running shoes feels like a stretch to me – but the campaign feels fresh and different to me for that I want to give them kudos.
