The Cirque Series is coming to Washington State. The team is still looking for volunteers for a spectacular day out at Crystal Mountain on 19 September. Email Steve for info.
For the third edition of the Whistler Ultra Trail by UTMB UTMB moved the event from it’s original, and controversial September date to mid-August, just a week before the UTMB Finals. Is that a permanent move, is that just temporarily for this year? Who knows, but it’s an odd time of year for the World Series communication as most of the attention has already been put on Chamonix. Either way, the event happened again and here are the results.
Jackson COLE (New Zealand) took 1st and Joshua POTVIN (Canada) took third in the 50K – both ran Beast of Big Creek earlier this month.

Whistler Ultra Trail saw a total 1,175 starters and 955 finishers and grew again by double digits over last year. 353 (37%) women and 602 (63%) men reached the finish line and earned themselves a total of 1,564 stones for the Finals in Chamonix.
One thing I am currently investigating – and have a question in to UTMB – is the fairly high DNF rate in both the 100K and 50K. There are several online first person comments out from folks suggesting that the cutoff times for these two races were completely bonkers resulting in way too many folks not making it. If true this seems like (ANOTHER!) huge own goal for UTMB for their Whistler event. Are their self-sabotaging the event? Or is Whistler just cursed?
It’s UTMB Finals week next. All eyes on Chamonix. TDS kicks off Monday the 24th.
