(Four events in one weekend… phew… it’s taken me a bit to get to all of them, but I got it done, just ahead of the next one already on the horizon: the Mountain Ultra Trail in South Africa.)

UTMB’s first Major in the Oceania is also the world’s second largest (self-titled and unconfirmed!) Ultra event. The hugely popular by any account, Ultra-Trail Australia happened last week on one of UTMB’s busiest weekend’s of the year with 3 other UTMB World Series events around the world, bringing the total number of runners participating in a UTMB race to ~21,502. Holy logistical challenge. Anyways, double stones were up for grabs ‘down under’. For the first time the “Miler” distance was offered – a 100M race. Folks in parts of the southern hemisphere like to call their 100M distance event ‘a miler’, which I find endearing and others get confused by, but they also like the word ‘hundo’ so we shouldn’t take them too serious.

Special shout out to my buddy Aaron Shimmons from Irland who flew down to run the ‘Miler’ but had to DNF due to twisting his ankle in the early miles of the race. Pics looked awful – hope you heal up quick and come back stronger! And Gute Besserung!
